Bailey's career began as a fashion model following her move from Atlanta to New York. Soon she bagged her a contract of five years with Wilhelmina Models and was seen on the cover of the magazine Essence. Bailey's cover shoot proved to be highly success and was later to become one of the best-selling pages in the history of the magazine. After that, her successful career as a model began with a new cover too. A result of her popularity and fame she walked on in the Paris Fashion Week runway as along with Milan Fashion Week.
